The Yankees added some right-handed hitting depth to their 40-man roster via the waiver wire.

The club claimed outfielder Bryan de la Cruz off waivers from the Braves on Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred Giancarlo Stanton (tennis elbows) to the 60-day IL, which was merely a formality at this point as the DH has still yet to face live pitching.

This just makes it official he will not be back before May 23.

The 28-year-old de la Cruz has spent parts of five seasons in the big leagues with the Marlins, Pirates and Braves.

He is a career .251 hitter with a .698 OPS. A year ago, he hit 21 home runs in 149 games.

This season he hit .191 (9-for-47) with a .453 OPS in 16 games for the Braves before they designated him for assignment this week.

In his big league career, de la Cruz has hit .267 with a .697 OPS against left-handers, which is likely his best chance of helping the Yankees.

Aside from Aaron Judge, their outfield has two left-handed hitters in Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger and a switch-hitter in Jasson Domínguez who is best from the left side.
