It’s been a big and stressful week in politics — but Connie Chung and Jackie Hoffman are here to lighten the heavy mood. The two women appeared on Thursday night’s (Nov. 7) episode of Watch What Happens Live, where they dished on their interactions with past U.S. presidents.

It’s no surprise that Chung has interacted with multiple presidents, given her illustrious career in journalism. But Hoffman, whose acting credits span three decades, also ran into a president — although, things got real awkward, real fast.

“George H. W. Bush came to Hairspray — original cast, thank you,” Hoffman told host Andy Cohen.

“After the show, he was meeting everybody and he was very nice,” she continued. “I said, ‘George, I’d love to meet Barbara.’ And he said, ‘Barbara, this lovely young lady would like to meet you.’ And Barbara leans down and I said, ‘Well, here’s the real man of the family!’”

When Cohen asked how that went over, Hoffman immediately replied, “Not well.”

Chung, for her part, recalled the time she interviewed Richard Nixon amid the Watergate scandal.

“I ran into Nixon during the thick of Watergate. And he wouldn’t answer my questions,” Chung said. “But he said one thing to me: ‘Just remember one thing, honey, you have to make more money.’”

She added, “How weird? He was really off his rocker. If you thought this one is off his rocker.”

That wasn’t the only strange interaction Chung discussed on WWHL. She also remembered the time she was tasked with interviewing O.J. Simpson’s mother — except she had “no teeth.”

According to Chung, she called her husband Maury Povich, who told her, “When a person is on our program with no teeth, we give them teeth.” However, Chung said she “didn’t have time” to give Simpson’s mother teeth.

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
