Cindy Crawford just had to have faith. The model revealed on Watch What Happens Live that she initially thought she got “the worst part” in the late George Michael‘s iconic “Freedom!” music video — until she saw the final edit.
Crawford stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse for Wednesday night’s (July 24) episode of the WWHL: After Show, where she recalled starring alongside fellow models Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz and Christy Turlington in Michael’s 1990 music video.
“It’s funny because when we shot that, everyone kind of shot at different times,” Crawford explained. “I got there and they showed me what Christy had been wearing and Linda and they were like, ‘You’re gonna be in the tub.’ And I was like, ‘Ugh.’ And I [had] to have wet hair. I felt like I got the worst part.”
Crawford admitted that after she saw the final product, she said, “OK, they actually gave me a good part.”
According to the star, “Freedom!” still makes her want to “get back in that tub” when she hears it on the radio.
“What was really cool about that song — it was one of those moments where fashion and pop culture and music all came together,” she said, before adding, “If you put it on to this day, I either want to get up and dance or get back in that tub.”
Actor Colman Domingo, who guest-starred on WWHL alongside Crawford, then asked if she knew it was going to become such an iconic moment in pop culture history when she was doing it.
“Not shooting that video you didn’t feel it was a moment,” she said. “But shortly thereafter, there was a Versace show in Milan and Gianni had the four of us — not Tatjana — but Christy, Linda, Naomi and I walk out to that song. And George may or may not have been in the audience. But that was one of those moments where you feel it when it’s happening and that’s rare.”
Crawford continued, “Normally, you look back and you’re like, ‘Oh, that was really cool that I was there.’ But that moment, you were like, ‘Something’s happening.'”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
