It’s a dog-eat-dog world.

A scandal that’s taken over the world of record-breaking dogs has led to Guinness World Records temporarily pawsing applications for both the oldest dog living and oldest dog ever, The Post can confirm.

Bobi was said to be 30 years and 266 days old as of February 1, 2023, when Guinness World Records certified him as the new record holder as both oldest dog living and the oldest dog ever.

Bobi passed away in Oct. 2023 just months after his 31st birthday, and his death was confirmed on Facebook by Dr. Karen Becker, a veterinarian who met the canine on several occasions.

“Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings,” she wrote. “Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him. Godspeed, Bobi…you’ve taught the world all you were mean’t to teach.”

The pooch was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, which is a breed of livestock watchdog with an average life expectancy of 12 to 14 years, according to American Kennel Club.

However, doubts have recently been raised over whether the dog from Portugal really was the oldest dog ever — even though his birth date had previously been confirmed by Serviço Medico-Veterinário do Município de Leiria (Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria), as well as SIAC, a pet database authorized by the Portuguese government.

People are now questioning why photos of Bobi as a young pup show him with white paws while photos of him in his older age show him with brown paws.

Due to the skepticism as well as an investigation from WIRED, GWR is conducting a formal review into the record, involving reviewing evidence on file, seeking new evidence, reaching out to experts and those linked to the original application, The Post learned.

Applications are paused while the review is ongoing until all findings are confirmed and have been communicated.

“No action has been taken in relation to any record holders yet, any actions are to be determined by the outcome of the review,” a spokesperson clarified regarding reports that Bobi has been stripped of the title.
