A 67-year-old woman was killed and an 8-year-old girl hurt in an early Monday house fire in Brooklyn, authorities said.
The blaze erupted in the rear of the two-story home on East 92nd Street near Clarkson Avenue in Brownsville around 2 a.m., officials said.
The older woman and young girl – who are believed to be related – were found inside the home suffering from smoke inhalation, police said. Their exact relationship was not immediately known.
They were both taken to the Kings County Hospital Center, where the woman was pronounced dead and the girl remains in stable condition.
The woman’s identity has not been released, pending family notification.
A dozen FDNY units, including 60 firefighters and EMS workers, responded to the scene.
The fire was placed under control around 2:35 a.m., the FDNY said.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation by fire marshals.
The deadly fire comes hours after a 1-year-old boy was killed in another house fire on 106th Avenue in Jamaica, Queens.
