Nearly halfway through a schedule in which the Yankees know they are never going to have the rotation they wanted due mainly to Gerrit Cole’s season-long absence, starting pitching has nevertheless been a strength. Because pretty much wherever the Yanks have turned in crisis, they have received, at minimum, competence.
