Cobra Kai series finale spoilers ahead…
The final five episodes of Cobra Kai floored me. From the “Thunderstruck” moment at the end of Episode 13 (“Skeletons”) to the Daniel and Johnny Rocky-inspired training montage (featuring “You’re the Best Around”) in Episode 15 (“Ex-Degenerate”), the series delivered the ultimate Johnny Lawrence redemption story Karate Kid fans never knew they always needed.
Bravo, Cobra Kai. Bravo.
The sixth season of Cobra Kai was the show’s final installment, but what exactly does the future hold for the franchise? Series creators Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald, and Jon Hurwitz have openly talked about continuing the Miyagi-verse. What kind of spinoffs could we see from the brain trust behind Cobra Kai? Here’s everything we know.
Yep. Sorry, but the sixth season of Cobra Kai is the final season of the series.
As of now… no. But you know what they say: Cobra Kai never dies! Karate Kid: Legends, an upcoming film that stars Jackie Chan and features Ralph Macchio reprising his role as Daniel LaRusso, takes place three years after the events of Cobra Kai.
“It was not a quick decision, because it was about protecting the Daniel LaRusso character, and finding where he would be at that point, and then protecting the whole legacy in the Miyagi-verse, “Macchio told Variety during a November 2024 interview. “Once we were able to line that up, for the ‘Cobra Kai’ story to lead into the new film — even though they’re separate ecosystems — it all made sense for me. Then, working with Jackie was just super exciting. I started this on the big screen. How cool is it to get it back to the big screen?”
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
There’s no official news regarding a Cobra Kai spinoff, but series co-creator Hayden Schlossberg told Screen Rant that the team has been “talking nonstop and working behind the scenes on multiple different possibilities.”
Back in July, Schlossberg, Josh Heald, and Jon Hurwitz told The Hollywood Reporter that they’d love to do a Mr. Miyagi prequel series, while the trio also hinted to Entertainment Weekly that a Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) and Demetri (Gianni DeCenzo) spinoff could potentially be in the works.
Again, there’s no concrete information, but based on the overwhelming success of Cobra Kai and the enduring popularity of the Karate Kid franchise, we expect some sort of Cobra Kai spinoff to be announced at some point.
All six seasons of Cobra Kai are streaming on Netflix.
