Heartstopper fans are in for some exciting news—the series isn’t over quite yet.

Following the Season 3 premiere on October 3, the show’s creator Alice Oseman made it clear that she’s not done telling Charlie and Nick’s story. The most recent season is inspired by Volume 4 and Volume 5 of the graphic novels, and a sixth and final novel is in the works. “I’m only 50 pages in, but I know what’s going to happen, what all the dialogue is going to be, and now I’m just sitting down and drawing it, which is my favorite bit,” Oseman told The Guardian.

So…

There’s no official answer from Netflix yet, but Heartstopper Season 4 could draw inspiration from Volume 6, as well as a novella called “Nick and Charlie” published in 2015, which takes place before Nick leaves for college.

“In terms of the show, obviously there is more story in the books that we have yet to cover, and we would love to tell the end of the story in TV form,” Oseman told Netflix Tudum. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, Oseman did mention that she is in discussions with Netflix, along with production company See-Saw Films.

Oseman will keep fans updated with any TV news, but in the meantime, she is focused on making Volume 6 of the graphic novels come to life. “Our little gang of Heartstopper characters are going to all grow up and have to go out into the big wide world,” Oseman said to Tudum. “It’s really fun to imagine where all of these characters are going to end up. I’m excited to take them on that journey in Volume 6.”

At the end of Heartstopper Season 3, Charlie (Joe Locke) shows growth on his mental health journey, as he tackles his performance anxiety and even decides to wear a t-shirt instead of a bulky sweater. Meanwhile, Nick (Kit Connor) struggles with choosing between his dream university and the university closer to home—and Charlie. Nick and Charlie also take their relationship to the next level, sharing an intimate moment together for the first time.
Heartstopper Season 4 would continue to explore Nick and Charlie’s relationship and deal with the complexities of long-distance love. “I’ve known for ages how Heartstopper is going to end…” Oseman told Attitude Magazine. “I’m not going to spoil anything. But I mean, it’s a happy ending.”
