Long after the original series wrapped in 1993, the new installment of Quantum Leap has brought a lot of buzz to NBC‘s weekly line-up. The series’ sophomore season aired its two-hour finale on Tuesday night (Feb. 20), leaving fans curious as to whether or not a third season is in the works.

Taking the place of the original iteration’s physicist Sam Beckett is Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee), another physicist who “makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it,” per the show’s synopsis.

Around the premiere of the reboot in 2022, one of the sci-fi series’ showrunners, Martin Gero, told Decider that they want viewers “to be able to leap to every episode, and have a great adventure, make right where once went wrong.”

The show, which also stars Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Nanrisa Lee, and Mason Alexander Park, brought in “4.9 million viewers across all platforms,” in its debut season, per an NBC press release shared ahead of the Season 2 premiere last month.

So, will there be a Season 3 of Quantum Leap? Here is everything we know.

As of now, the show has yet to be renewed for Season 3. However, there’s still hope! Showrunners Gero and Dean Georgaris teased to Deadline that although they “haven’t done a longform pitch” to the network yet for the reboot’s third installment, “they know definitely what the shape is.”

Also with respect to a third season, Gero said, “We’ve been thinking about this since the strike was over and once we kind of finalized what the episode count was going to be, we started thinking and working on season three.”

While speaking with TVLine, Georgaris (who also serves as executive producer) and Gero also sounded hopeful when discussing a possible Season 3, with the former noting that they’ve “spent two seasons building up a launchpad to a whole new journey.”

Seasons 1 and 2 of Quantum Leap are streaming on Peacock. You can also watch Quantum Leap on the NBC app or at NBC.com with an NBCUniversal profile or by logging in with your TV provider.
