We laughed, we cried, we scratched our heads — can you blame us for needing a Doctor Odyssey Season 2 and wanting it stat?

Less than one week after the Ryan Murphy-produced dramedy wrapped its first season on ABC, fans are still eagerly awaiting news of whether or not the show will receive a second season. The intrigue is heightened too because it’s one of the only shows still waiting on a decision. What’s going on over at ABC, man?!

Alas, we could not be more hopeful at the chance that The Odyssey — complete with Dr. Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Phillipa Soo), Tristan (Sean Teale), and Captain Robert (Don Johnson) — will sail again, especially after that Season 1 ending.

So, will the beautifully unserious series get a second season? And will the cast return? Here’s everything we know about Doctor Odyssey Season 2…

No, at this time, Doctor Odyssey does not have a confirmed second season. This does not mean that the show has been canceled but we are still waiting for the higher-ups to make the final say. This could come any day so be on the lookout.

At this time, it looks unlikely that Doctor Odyssey could return in the fall. Last week, ABC held its upfront event in New York and the Ryan Murphy show was noticeably left off the fall 2025 schedule. Again, this doesn’t say anything conclusive but it makes us skeptical that if the show does get a Season 2, it will be premiering anytime soon.

According to Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich, the show’s fate is up to none other than Ryan Murphy. “Doctor Odyssey isn’t currently on our schedule,” Erwich told Deadline during a recent interview. “Ryan’s really busy. He’s doing a lot with us. 9-1-1, 9-1-1 Nashville, All’s Fair [for Hulu]. So we’re just continuing that creative conversations with him.”

Aside from Jackson, Johnson, Teale, and Soo, the show has welcomed a myriad of guest stars in their first (but hopefully not only) 18 episodes. Guest stars include names like Kelsea Ballerini, Shania Twain, Margo Martindale, Whitney Cummings, and more.

“Max is the new on-board doctor for a luxury cruise ship where the small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore,” a description for the series reads.

The entire first season of Doctor Odyssey is currently streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
