NextImg:Will there be a Season 2 of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’?

Dexter. Is. Back.

The season finale of Dexter: Resurrection debuted last Friday (September 5) on Paramount+, delivering a thrilling end to a captivating season. The later seasons of the original Dexter earned some well-deserved derision from critics and fans as the series lost the secret sauce that made the first four seasons so enjoyable.

Resurrection didn’t quite hit the highs of Seasons 1-4 — I tend to like Season 3 more than the consensus — but it was easily the best installment of the franchise since the show’s early days. Michael C. Hall was predictably terrific, Jack Alcott’s Harrison Morgan continues to serve as a huminaizing foil for Dexter, and Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, and a returning David Zayas were pitch-perfect in supporting roles. And let’s not forget about all the members of Leon Prater’s serial killer club and the fun cameos from the original series.

Dexter: Resurrection was an absolute blast. Will the show be back for a second season? Here’s everything we know.

The first season consists of ten episodes.

Nope. The series finale premiered Friday, September 5 on Paramount+, so there’s still plenty of time for a second season renewal announcement.

Another popular Paramount+ series, Landman, concluded on January 12, 2025, with the Season 2 announcement taking place in March 2025.

As we mentioned above, there’s no official news about a second season, but we fully expect Dexter: Resurrection to be back for Season 2. The series not only had strong ratings — the premiere drew 4.4 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days, per Variety — but the show’s been met with extremely positive reviews from both critics and fans. Without getting into spoiler territory, the Season 1 finale also set up the probable antagonist for Season 2, so all signs point to more Dexter.

Per Deadline, Paramount Global canceled the Dexter prequel Original Sin and commissioned a writers’ room for a second season of Resurrection. The show’s probable renewal is said to be contingent on budget approvals.

If the series does score another season, we expect it to premiere in the spring or summer of 2026.

The first season of Dexter: Resurrection is available on Paramount+ Premium, which you can purchase for $12.99/month. From now until September 18, a Paramount+ Premium annual plan is only $59.99 for the first year.

You can also add Paramount Plus Premium to your Prime Video or Hulu account for an extra $12.99/month. New subscribers can sample the streamer on Amazon with a seven-day free trial.
