We’re currently watching a ton of new television. Like, an embarrassing amount.
Not only are we streaming new episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Hulu), Stick (Apple TV+), Bob’s Burgers (Hulu), and Dexter: Resurrection (Paramount+), but we’re trying to stay current on The Bear, all the Love Islands, and the second season of Poker Face on Peacock.
Despite the avalanche of unwatched episodes in our queue, we can’t help but want more episodes of Prime Video’s new Bosch spinoff Ballard.
Inspired by Michael Connelly’s Ballard novels, the series follows Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), a detective tasked with tackling LA’s most challenging, long-forgotten crimes after she takes over the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division.
Per Amazon, “As she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer’s string of murders and a murdered John Doe, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD. With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard navigates personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth.”
What’s the latest on a potential second season of Ballard? Great question. Here’s everything we know.
The first season of Ballard consists of ten episodes.
In addition to Maggie Q and Titus Welliver, the cast also includes Courtney Taylor, John Carroll Lynch, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy, and Hector Hugo.
Nope. Prime Video has yet to renew the series for a second season.
There’s no official information about a second season, but we strongly believe that the show will be back for another round of intrigue.
Not only is Ballard a hit with critics and fans alike — the series currently boasts a 100% Tomatometer score — but without getting into spoiler territory, the season ended on quite the cliffhanger. As of this writing, Ballard is the number one show in the United States on Amazon, and the Prime Video/Bosch relationship has been a lucrative one for all parties.
During a recent interview with Men’s Journal, Maggie Q revealed that they have a “great lineup for Season 2, story-wise” and that she’s crossing her fingers for a second season.
When would production potentially start on Season 2? We’ll let the star of the show answer that one.
“If we get a season two of Ballard, I think we’ll be back in the fall to shoot,” Q told The Hollywood Reporter during a July interview.
Again, there hasn’t been an official renewal, but we fully expect Ballard to return for a second season.
All ten episodes of Ballard are now streaming on Amazon Prime, which is available for $14.99/month or $139/year. A standalone Prime Video membership is also an option for $8.99/month. An ad-free version is available for an additional $2.99/month.
Amazon offers a discounted student option for $7.49/month or $69/year, and EBT, Medicaid, SNAP, and other select government assistance recipients can qualify for a reduced $6.99/month membership.
