After four seasons of Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher’s popular Netflix dramedy Never Have I Ever, our girl Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) finally graduated high school and is off to the college of her dreams. So is this where we say goodbye, or can we follow her to Princeton?
If you’ve made it to the end credits on Never Have I Ever Season 4, Episode 10, “Never Have I Ever…said goodbye,” you know that nearly every storyline — from Devi’s college drama to her love life — is nicely wrapped up. But the final two words from the show’s trusty narrator John McEnroe may leave fans wondering if they’ve truly seen the last of the series or if there’s more of Devi’s story to tell.
Curious if Never Have I Ever‘s Season 4 finale will also serve as the series finale? Wondering if Never Have I Ever Season 5 is coming to Netflix? Or if there’s a potential spin-off in the works? Here’s everything we know about the future of the series.
As noted in a previous piece, ahead of Never Have I Ever‘s Season 3 premiere in March 2022, co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher announced that the series was renewed for a fourth and final season.
“Four seasons of Never Have I Ever is truly exciting and a little bittersweet because, as a loyal fan, I’d love Devi’s journey to go on forever,” Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television, told Deadline in response to the news. “But just like high school, all great things must come to an end. A big shout out to our fearless Cricket Queens, Mindy and Lang, and our exceptional cast and crew, who have authentically captured the emotional rollercoaster ride that defines our teenage years. We can’t wait to experience all of the messiness, the LOLs and the tears that will surely unfold in Devi’s senior year.”

While there won’t be a Never Have I Ever Season 5, the fact that Devi and her friends wrap up their senior year of high school in Season 4 after we’ve spent the series watching them navigate their formative teen years does offer a certain amount of closure that makes saying goodbye feel more natural. We’ll miss Sherman Oaks, but Devi went out with both a bang and a boink!
After an eventful senior year, Never Have I Ever‘s series finale shows Devi getting accepted to Princeton, graduating from Sherman Oaks High School with her friends, and having a perfect summer with Eleanor and Fabiola before they head off to college. The majority of the episode takes place on Nirmala and Len’s wedding night, where Devi and her Sherman Oaks crew have one final celebration before saying goodbye and heading off to their respective schools. The only person missing? Ben, who’s spending the summer interning for a law firm in New York City.
During the wedding, an emotional Devi finally packs her suitcase for school with help from Nalini. She shares special moments with Kamala, Paxton, Fab, and Eleanor. And as the friends play a nostalgic game of “Never Have I Ever,” the one, the only Ben Gross makes a grand rom-com entrance to declare his love for Devi. She says she loves him too, and they scooter away to Ben’s house and spend a romantic night together. When they wake in the morning, Ben says they should be together and try long-distance. Devi agrees, then goes home to head to campus with her mom. Before they leave the house, Devi runs upstairs to say “What’s poppin, gods?!” But instead of asking for smaller pores or a boyfriend who can do one-armed push-ups like she usually does, she thanks them for her awesome life and loved ones, asks them to take care of her mom while she’s gone, and says “I’ll see you at Princeton” to a photo of her dad.

A closing montage shows Nalini and Andres laughing over a glass of wine, Fab enjoying a robotics class with Gears, Eleanor acting with Trent close by, Paxton studying at Arizona State, Kamala and Manish (FINALLY!!!!) grabbing ice cream, and Ben and Devi cuddling in her dorm for a movie night.
“After four rocky years of high school, Devi had both the boy and the college of her dreams. There would be other dreams, of course, like becoming the first Supreme Court Justice who’s also a hip hop artist, but in this moment, our little hot head from the valley was pretty happy,” Never Have I Ever‘s trusty narrator John McEnroe said before signing off “for now.” FOR NOW?! Hold on a second…
The finale marks the end of an era for Devi and viewers alike, but could McEnroe’s ominous “for now” mean we haven’t heard the last of him yet? Could there be a Never Have I Ever spin-off, reboot, or movie in our future? There are currently no known continuations in the works, but never have we ever said no to more Devi, so we wouldn’t be opposed if McEnroe were to sign back on someday should the perfect opportunity present itself. I mean who wouldn’t want to follow the Never Have I Ever characters to college? If this truly is the end of the series, though, we’re thankful this delightful finale gives us all the closure we need.
All four seasons of Never Have I Ever are currently streaming on Netflix.
