It feels like Milo Ventimiglia was devouring a cheeseburger during the series premiere of The Company You Keep just yesterday, but the Season 1 finale is officially behind us.
ABC’s sexy crime drama starring Ventimiglia as con-man Charlie Nicoletti, Sarah Wayne Callies as Charlie’s sister Birdie, Polly Draper and William Fichtner as their parents, and Catherine Haena Kim as Charlie’s CIA agent crush Emma wrapped its first season on Sunday, May 7 in an episode titled “The Truth Hurts.” And if you watched Emma and Charlie partner with Daphne (Felisha Terrell) to take down the Maguires, you’re likely wondering if there’s more The Company You Keep episodes to come.
Wondering if The Company You Keep is renewed or canceled on ABC? Or what The Company You Keep Season 2 might look like? Here’s what we know about the future of the charming heist series.
Ahead of The Company You Keep‘s Season 1 finale, ABC had yet to renew or cancel the series. But that’s not to say the show will end for good on Sunday, May 7. The drama pulled solid ratings in its first season and currently has a 92% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. And though the two series are drastically different, it’s worth noting that Ventimiglia’s last broadcast drama, NBC’s This Is Us, lasted six seasons so here’s hoping that Milo Magic strikes again.
After its Season 1 finale, The Company You Keep still had quite a few storylines in need of wrapping. So what could a Season 2 of The Company You Keep look like? If the series does get renewed, the show will likely explore Charlie and Emma’s romance along with their new partnership. Emma ended the season stepping away from the CIA with a plan to carry out an off-the-books investigation into the agency with some help from the inside. Charlie will likely help her out with that mission. (And here’s hoping we haven’t seen the last of Daphne!) As far as the Nicoletti family goes, a Season 2 would likely focus more on Leo’s health, and since Birdie and Charlie ended the season with talk of “leveling the playing field for everybody” we probably haven’t seen the last of their cons. We can also expect to see more of Emma’s brother David Hill in Season 2, considering he won the election and Jennifer and her mom (?!) seem to be plotting against him.
Decider reached out to a rep for The Company You Keep who will keep us updated on its renewal status. We’ll be sure to update this piece when we learn more. Until then, The Company You Keep is streaming on Hulu for all your rewatch needs.
