It was absolute chaos in Milwaukee.
A wild sequence of events played out in the top of the fourth inning when Brewers center fielder Sal Frelick had a home run-robbing catch pop out of his glove, creating one of the wackiest postseason moments in recent memory.
With the bases loaded and Dodgers infielder Max Muncy at the plate and one out, he hit a long ball towards the center field wall, sending Frelick on a chase. The outfielder snagged the ball at the wall, but it popped out before he was able to gain full control of it.
Frelick quickly flung the ball to shortstop Joey Ortiz, who whipped the ball to catcher William Contreras in time to get Teoscar Hernandez on the force out at home.
The Brewers completed the miraculous double-play by getting Will Smith out at third for the final out of the inning.
Frelick, likely mirroring just about everyone watching at home and at American Family Field, looked stunned and was trying to process what just happened before cracking a smile after realizing what just occurred.
The Dodgers challenged the call, but after a review, the umps ruled the call on the field stood, confirming the force outs at home plate and third base.
Since the ball came out of Frelick’s glove and hit off the wall before falling back into his glove, it was considered live and not a catch, meaning that the runners had to advance and set up force plays at any base.
Since the Dodger runners didn’t seem to know if it was a catch or not, there was confusion on the bases, allowing for the bizarre moment to occur.
The Brewers went down in order in the bottom half of the inning and the game remained knotted at zero until Freddie Freeman put the Dodgers ahead with a solo home run.
