The widow of the late David Koch, Julia Koch, has quietly sold their 15,000-square-foot townhouse for $41 million in an off-market deal.
The Kochs had only purchased the over-seven-level Upper East Side residence in 2018 for $40.25 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.
David and Julia, a philanthropist who is ranked the second richest woman in the world after French businesswoman Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, purchased the home from real estate magnate Joe Chetrit.
The home was designed by Robert Couturier and renovated by architect Peter Marino. It was previously described as a mix of “modern convenience and luxury.”
All floors are accessible by an elevator.
Made up of eight bedrooms and 10 baths, features include a formal marble entry foyer, a grand central staircase, and a kitchen and family area overlooking the landscaped courtyard.
The master suite alone is more than 1,500 square feet — larger than most city apartments — and comes with a separate sitting room, a fireplace and double baths.
Additional amenities include a separate service entry, a security room, a staff suite, a gym, a roof terrace and family rooms.
Meanwhile, Julia, 61, has been making several real estate moves over the past few years. Since last year, she has been marketing their 18-room duplex at the famed 740 Park Avenue for $48 million.
“Every detail of the 76th Street townhouse was perfect, and we are now excited to focus on the sale of Mrs. Koch’s recently renovated 740 Park Avenue apartment,” Leighton Candler of the Corcoran Group, who is representing both properties, told the outlet.
David Koch, who died in 2019, bought the 740 Park Avenue co-op from the Japanese government for about $18 million in 2004.
A spokesperson for Julia Koch, meanwhile, told the Journal she has no plans of leaving the Big Apple.
Additionally, Julia purchased two Upper East Side apartments from the estate of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen for a total of $101 million. She also paid $70 million for an oceanfront estate in Southampton in late 2021 and has a home in Palm Beach, Florida.
Koch was an American businessman, political activist, philanthropist, and chemical engineer. He was co-owner of Koch Industries (along with his elder brother Charles) — the second largest privately held company in the United States.
