NextImg:Wife of ex-Bills coach Marv Levy detests Bill Belichick: ‘Mean person’

Patriots fans aren’t the only ones who have had just about enough of head coach Bill Belichick.

Just ask Fran Levy, the wife of former Bills head coach Marv Levy, who ripped the eight-time Super Bowl winner during her husband’s recent interview with The Boston Globe.

When Marv, 98, was asked last week if he’d provide any guidance for Belichick — whose Patriots dropped to 2-8 following a disheartening loss to the Colts on Sunday in Germany — Fran sounded off on the embattled head coach.

“I think he should retire. I can’t stand him. He’s a cheater and he was rude to Marv. Bill Belichick was always jealous of Marv. He’s a mean person and I hope he never wins again,” said Fran, who added she “wear[s] my heart on my sleeve.”

Marv said in response, “Don’t quote me on that. I’m not saying that. I’m going to have Fran run some extra wind sprints for saying that!”

Belichick referenced Marv in 2009, stating, “I won’t be like Marv Levy and coach in my 70s.”

Now 71 and in the middle of a disappointing season, Belichick’s future in New England has been called into question.

Levy, who stepped down as Bills head coach at 72 after being at the helm from 1986 through 1997, suggested Belichick enjoy the ride for as long as he can.

“About a year or two after I left, I felt I’d retired too soon,” Marv said. “I missed coaching. I regretted it and wanted to come back, but I was too old and no one would have hired me. If somebody would have hired me, I would have come sprinting back.”

Belichick, then the Giants defensive coordinator, received a lot of credit for shutting down Levy’s high-powered Bills in Super Bowl XXV in the 20-19 Big Blue victory.

It was the first of four straight Super Bowl trips for the Bills, who dropped all four.

Belichick, who said last year his comment about Levy “was not one of my better statements,” is going to continue “to do the best” he can.

“I think we’re all disappointed in the season. But we’ll keep going here,” Belichick said Sunday after the Colts defeated the Patriots, 10-6.

“Seven games to go. Be ready to go next week against the Giants.”

What happens in New England after those final seven games is anyone’s guess.
