Rex Huermann’s wife said she was completely disoriented after he was accused of being the Gilgo Beach killer and arrested for allegedly murdering three sex workers.
“I didn’t know where I was,” Asa Ellerup, 59, told the Sun Friday as she sat in the shade outside the Massapequa Park home she shared with Heuermann and their two children for two decades before his July arrest.
Ellerup and her two adult children, Christopher and Victoria, had to immediately vacate their home per the police after Heuermann was arrested near his Midtown office on July 13.
She and her kids ended up sleeping in a rental car for more than a week because they didn’t know what else to do, she told the outlet as she lounged in a lawn chair.
Ellerup said she was finally able to find some peace at her longtime home, which she was allowed to return to after 12 days — and found it was in complete disarray after the investigation
“It’s a mess in there,” she told the Sun. “But this is my home. I raised my children in this home, and I’ve got to fix it up.
“I’m just trying to enjoy this for now,” she added, gesturing toward the sun before pulling her hood down.
“I have skin cancer, you know, so I have to cover my a– up.”
Heuermann was charged with murdering Megan Waterman, 22; Melissa Barthelemy, 24; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27, who were all found dead along Gilgo Beach in late 2010.
He is also the prime suspect in the murder of a fourth woman, 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes.
Ellerup filed for divorce less than a week after Heuermann was charged with the murders.
