A mom’s gotta do what a mom’s gotta do. After Savannah Guthrie mysteriously went missing midway through Thursday morning’s (Sept. 7) taping of The Today Show, her fellow co-hosts filled viewers in on her whereabouts.
Guthrie and Hoda Kotb previously took some well-deserved time away from the show toward the end of August. The former remained active on her Instagram page, where she posted photos from Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour at SoFi Stadium in California, the U.S. Open, and a Labor Day s’mores session with her kids to bid farewell to the summer.
While Guthrie has since returned from her vacation, she noticeably disappeared for the latter half of Thursday’s episode of Today. So where was she? And when will she be back on the show?
We have all the answers to your burning questions. Keep reading for everything you need to know!
Guthrie had to skip out halfway through Thursday morning’s taping to bring her daughter Vale, 9, and son Charley, 6, to their first day of school. Craig Melvin made the revelation when he stepped in for his colleague.
“Savannah had to leave early. It’s her kids’ first day of school, so best of luck to Vale and Charley,” he explained as he took over her seat, before Kotb happily added, “Yeah, happy first day!”
Guthrie isn’t the only one who had to put work aside for her mom duties. On Wednesday morning’s (Sept. 6) episode, Kotb made an abrupt exit to get her two daughters, Haley and Hope, off to their first day of school.

Good news! The whole Today Show gang is back on this morning’s episode — and just in time to celebrate Olivia Rodrigo‘s sophomore album, “Guts,” which was released today. You can catch Guthrie, Kotb, Melvin, Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer in Rockefeller Plaza as they watch the young starlet sing a mix of fan-favorite songs and tracks from her new album.
