Whoopi Goldberg agrees with Hillary Clinton that half of Donald Trump‘s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables.”

On this morning’s episode of The View, President Joe Biden‘s latest slip-up was of topic of conversation. In response to a comedian at a recent MAGA rally calling Puerto Rico an “island of garbage,” Biden said, “The only garbage I see floating out there is [Trump’s] supporters.” However, the POTUS immediately clarified that he was actually speaking of the “hateful rhetoric” coming from Trump and his team.

Despite his correction, Alyssa Farah Griffin felt as though Biden’s comment only hurt Kamala Harris‘ campaign.

“I thought Kamala Harris knocked it out of the park with her closing message and this stepped on it because she is running on unifying the country being the country for all Americans, including the 74 million people who voted for Donald Trump last time,” Griffin said. “I appreciate that Joe Biden immediately and swiftly walked it back.”

But, according to Griffin, his initial comment is the one that’s going to be “blasted out” to undecided voters.

“The profile of undecided people right now is like a lot of people in my family — ‘life felt a little better under Donald Trump, I kind of think he’s a jerk, but I don’t know if I trust that other side, I don’t really feel like they care about me,'” she said. “So when they hear the president of the United States, who was Kamala Harris’ running mate, calling them garbage, they’re like, ‘See! They’re not with us.’”

While Griffin noted that there is a “completely unfair standard” with Trump and his insults, she explained that his supporters still “take offense” when the other side comes after them. The former White House staffer then referenced Clinton’s 2016 remark about half of Trump’s followers belonging in a “basket of deplorables” — and how the comment hurt her campaign.

“Deplorables did matter. That comment from Hillary Clinton did matter,” Griffin said, to which Goldberg fired back, “And it turned out she was right.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
