The View co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar were seemingly once part of a sneaky plan to unveil who was leaking gossip about them to the press.
On Thursday morning’s (Feb. 29) episode of the hit daytime talk show, Goldberg introduced a Hot Topics segment about the benefits of gossiping. While the longtime moderator insisted several times that she “[doesn’t] like” to gossip and won’t do it, her co-host Sunny Hostin revealed that she “enjoys a little tea” herself.
“Yes, but you don’t like tea being about you,” Goldberg reminded her, to which Hostin replied, “I don’t mind because I usually have something on the other person.”
Goldberg turned to the audience, telling them, “She’d like you to think that she is [one of those people]. But she’s actually not.”
Hostin noted that a University of Maryland report about gossiping says people “shouldn’t shun the resident blabbermouth,” which only fired up Goldberg more.
“I do. Because the resident blabbermouth is not checking to see if I’m comfortable with my business in the street and I don’t like it,” she fired back. “I think this comes with age. I’m of an age — she’s still 50-something. I don’t like people talking about me and what I’m doing.”
Goldberg added, “Even if it’s true — if I haven’t put it out, why are you putting it out?”
Later on in the conversation, Alyssa Farah Griffin offered an idea to “catch a gossip.”
“What you can do is you can plant false information and see if it makes its way around,” she suggested, before Goldberg turned to Behar and said, “Yes, we have done that. We did that to see who was talking.”
Hostin was all ears at Goldberg’s revelation, telling the panel that she’d like to know more to the story. Unfortunately, Behar said she’d “never find out” since the EGOT recipient “doesn’t gossip.”
“But you do!” Hostin excitedly said, while Griffin jokingly added, “We’ll get it out of you, Joy.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
