The View was appalled by Donald Trump‘s recent remarks about protecting women “whether [they] like it or not,” which, inevitably, led to a tense conversation about women’s rights and what abortion access could look like under a potential second term for Trump.
Joy Behar, always the comedian, made a dark dig at Trump as she asked the panel, “Can you protect women and also assault them at the same time?” referring to the many accusations against Trump, who was also found liable for sexual abuse of writer E. Jean Carroll, who claimed he raped her in 1996.
Whoopi Goldberg replied, “You can emotionally assault them without physically touching them,” but when it was Alyssa Farah Griffin‘s turn to speak, she shifted the chat to Trump’s plans for abortion. Notably, Roe v. Wade was overturned during Trump’s time in the White House.
“I also think he’s just misleading the public on the whole discussion of abortion,” Griffin began. “I know I have different convictions on it than you guys, but I believe in, or, we’re more similar,” she said, gesturing to her side where Sunny Hostin — who has been open about her own beliefs about abortion as a Catholic — was seated.
Joy Behar cut in to ask, “What, what’s the difference?”
Griffin explained, “I believe in some access and some limitations, but he is just—” but before she could continue, Behar pressed her further.
“Wait a minute,” Behar said. “How is that different from us?”

Griffin replied, “I’m just saying I personally lean more pro-life. I maybe in the first several weeks want some access,” meanwhile, Hostin could be heard saying, “And so do I,” in a rare instance of agreement with Griffin.
Goldberg then cut in to proclaim, “We’re all pro-life. None of us want to kill anyone,” a line that was received with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
