Whoopi Goldberg can never quite conceal her disdain for fluff segments — especially when they involve advice columns. During this morning’s episode of The View, the longtime moderator abandoned her typical eye-roll and flat-out voiced her frustration over the “stupid” Hot Topics subject.
“Welcome back,” Goldberg said as she settled into her chair for the third segment of the show. “Right now, we’re gonna bring you one of the stupidest stories we’ve ever brought to you before.”
Reading from her notecard, Goldberg explained that a woman who recently ended a “years-long affair” wrote into the New York Times “in a panic” because she and her husband were invited to a dinner party that her secret lover was also attending. The woman asked the outlet for advice on what she should do in the situation, prompting a blunt response from Goldberg.
“Well, dummy. Maybe don’t go,” she sharply advised.
However, Sara Haines had a different take; she felt as though the woman should go to the dinner party. After all, it’s her own fault that she had an affair with someone within their social circle, she said.

“I say you go and you sit there uncomfortably,” Haines said. “Because for all those years they were having the affair, they went to those events together. It’s now that she’s uncomfortable that she’s deciding.”
The co-host added, “So you will show up, you will eat the food, you will be polite, you will shut your mouth, and then go.”

Meanwhile, Joy Behar — who called Haines’ stance “virtue signaling at its best” — brought up another disastrous scenario that could go down at the upcoming party, should they attend.
“There will be drinking at this party,” she pointed out. “And then the truth will come — in vino veritas. The truth will come out and the ex-husband will find out and this one will find out. You never know what people are gonna say when they’re drunk.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
