Whoopi Goldberg had to reign in The View audience on today’s show after they got a little too vocal with their feelings about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The moderator was forced to directly address the studio audience on Thursday after they loudly booed the conservative politician during a Hot Topics segment.

It all began after Goldberg recapped a recent interview between DeSantis and Piers Morgan, in which she said DeSantis “tried to do damage control on his claim that Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine was just a territorial dispute.”

After playing the clip, which also showed DeSantis responding to frequent attacks from Donald Trump, Goldberg noted, “He also says he think he could beat President Biden [in 2024].”

Joy Behar could be heard flatly interjecting, “No,” as Goldberg asked, “Based on what you’re seeing so far, is he up to running on a national stage, especially with—”

She paused as she was interrupted by a chorus of boos from the audience. Goldberg, turning to face the crowd in front of her and her co-hosts, told them, “No, I have to ask them,” referring to the Hot Topics panel.

Her comment elicited plenty of laughter from co-hosts Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and Behar.

“This is the audience participation game,” Behar joked, to which Goldberg replied, “People talk to us at home, so it’s just the same.”

And if you’re curious, The View did eventually weigh in on DeSantis. The co-hosts came to a clear consensus in line with the audience, slamming the politician as a “hack” and “a flip-flopper.”
