Whoopi Goldberg spoke out in defense of Democrats on The View amid the recent government shutdown, which she explicitly blamed “the right” for.

“People keep bitching that the left isn’t doing anything,” she complained during Thursday’s broadcast of The View. “The bottom line is the left is doing what it can. This was the thing they felt they could do.”

She continued, “You have to tip your hat off to them because they don’t have the majority, they don’t have enough to even fight, so they’re trying to do anything they can. And, quite honestly, I’m sorry, this is on the right.”

Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar voiced their agreement, as Hostin added, “They control everything.”

“Because the things they could help with, they’re not helping with,” Goldberg declared. “They’re allowing things to go on.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin added that she personally blames Congress for failing to take action against President Trump.

“I blame Congress in a lot of this. They have basically two powers – the power of the purse, funding the fed government, and funding the war,” she explained. “They’ve ceded both of those to the president.”

Griffin also pointed out that she didn’t think President Trump would be personally “impacted by this shutdown.”

“I don’t know that he is, because his government can decide what stays open and what’s being funded,” she pointed out.

Goldberg ended the segment by once again speaking out in defense of Democrats in government.

“I don’t want us saying anymore that people aren’t trying to get stuff done,” she said. “They’re trying to get stuff done but they’re not in a very good position.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
