After 26 years on the air, The View is bound to have some misses. During this morning’s episode of the hit daytime talk show, the female-led panel looked back on one tricky segment involving a doctor and a conversation about penises.
While chatting about catching a case of the giggles at the wrong time, Joy Behar — who has been on the show since it began in 1997 — reflected on one awkward moment in particular.
“One time years and years ago, we had a doctor on. We always used to have doctors on,” she began. “And he was doing a thing called, ’10 Things You Don’t Know About Your Penis.’ We had to go through 10 of them, controlling the laughing. That was very difficult.”
Whoopi Goldberg, who was also on the show at the time, agreed with her fellow co-host. According to her, The View wasn’t necessarily the doctor’s target audience.
“No one reminded him that we are five women, who really didn’t care that we had to have this information,” she said, before later adding, “It’s tough but sometimes really the best thing to do is you have to try to get up and leave.”

Goldberg would know. After all, she one time had to excuse herself from a funeral when she couldn’t stop laughing.
“I went through this with somebody who was dead. And I thought, ‘I am in deep doo.’ Nothing was right in the coffin, I was one of two people who saw that there was an issue. You couldn’t adjust anything,” she said. “I got up and left.”
Still, the ladies collectively agreed that the worst of them all was Sara Haines — who frequently falls under laughing spells during Hot Topics meetings and, one time, during a serious on-air conversation about former CNN commentator Jeffrey Toobin, who was fired from The New Yorker for masturbating on-camera during a video conference call.
“I feel it rising into my throat and it starts to clench and I’m laughing so hard by the time I speak, I couldn’t finish. And you guys — no one broke,” Haines recalled after producers played back a video of the incident, to which Goldberg replied, “We were all holding on because it was made very clear that we had to take this very seriously.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
