Today Show fans were in for a treat during this morning’s taping when up-and-coming singer Cian Ducrot surprised the plaza with a performance of his song “I’ll Be Waiting,” completely throwing an unsuspecting Hoda Kotb for a loop.

Ducrot — an Irish singer-songwriter who gained popularity on TikTok for his singing flash mobs — was present in the Today Show plaza when Kotb made her way over to him.

“I came all the way from Ireland. But I actually brought something special for you if you don’t mind,” he told the host before he broke out his guitar and began singing his single, accompanied by New York City’s Modern Music Collective choir.

When Carson Daly revealed that they wanted to “surprise Hoda” following the short performance, she said, “I’m like in tears. That was so beautiful.”

Meanwhile, Kotb’s taken-aback reaction isn’t something Ducrot isn’t used to. As far as the general response he gets for breaking out into song in public places, he told the hosts, “It’s been pretty good.”

He continued, “Usually at the start people are confused about why there’s a random guy singing. And then the choir joins in and they’re like, ‘Oh it’s the real deal.'”

Elsewhere in the segment, Daly made mention of the 25-year-old’s recent successes, which included opening for some of today’s biggest artists such as Ed Sheeran and the Jonas Brothers. Ducrot also said that he’s currently on tour — which is “sold out” in the U.S. — and that his debut album “Victory” is coming out in July 2023.

While his album doesn’t come out for a couple more months, Ducrot has been making music for years. After leaving the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was studying the classical flute, the Ireland-native released several songs including 2022’s “All For You” — his first charting single.
