A new season of Abbott Elementary means new lesson plans, new field trips, new classroom chaos, new school employees, and new exciting guest stars!

After a five-month hiatus, Quinta Brunson’s Emmy-winning workplace comedy made its highly-anticipated Season 5 return on October 1. And Janine (Brunson), Gregory (Tyler James Williams), Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph), Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter), Jacob (Chris Perfetti), Ava (Janelle James), and Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) welcomed several fresh faces to school, including Dominic Clark, played by the talented Luke Tennie.

Per ABC, the official synopsis for Abbott Elementary‘s official Season 5 premiere, “Team Building,” is as follows: “The teachers prepare for the upcoming school year with new faces and big changes on the horizon.” One of those new faces, who’s sure to be sticking around, is Dominic! So lets learn more about the new character, shall we?

Who is Dominic on Abbott Elementary? And what do we know about Luke Dennie, the actor who plays Dominic in Season 5? Here’s what to know about Abbott‘s new character and Season 5 cast member, including why Tennie looks so familiar…

Based on Abbott Elementary‘s Season 5 trailer, we have a good idea of what some of the school’s big changes will be.”Since there aren’t enough second graders, for two classes, Miss Teagues will now have 40 student,” Ava tells Abbott‘s staff during a meeting in the gym, adding “Miss Schemmenti will be moving up to teach middle school math and homeroom.”

But that’s not all! The trailer and Season 5 premiere also introduce Dominic, a new fourth grade teacher and Barbara’s former student! “My student of 20 years ago is a colleague of mine,” Barbara says nervously in the teacher’s meeting. Will she crash out about her age and retirement like we’ve seen her nearly do in episodes past? Or will Dominic inspire Barbara to embrace Mentor Mode and spark a wonderful new friendship in the halls of Abbott? Stay tuned! In the meantime, let’s learn more about Luke Tennie, the actor who plays Dominic.

As noted, Dominic on Abbott Elementary is played by Luke Tennie, a 30-year-old actor who also stars in one of my personal favorite shows, Shrinking! If you’re a fan of Abbott Elementary and haven’t checked out the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ comedy, starring Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Harrison Ford, and more delightful talents yet, what are you waiting for?!

Apple TV+ comes with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers and has just one ad-free streaming plan available for $13.99/month.

While Tennie’s character Sean has his comedic moments on Shrinking, the star also regularly flexes his dramatic chops in the role, so we can’t wait to see him show new sides of himself as an actor on Abbott. In addition to Shrinking, Tennie has starred in a number of films and TV series since kickstarting his on-screen career in 2016, including Snowfall, Deadly Class, On the Verge, Players, CSI: Vegas, and more.

Want to stay up-to-date with Tennie off-screen? You can follow him on Instagram at @luke.tennie. And tune in to Abbott Season 5 to see more of Dominic’s journey!

New episodes of Abbott Elementary Season 5 premiere Wednesdays on ABC.
