The Crown

The Crown Season 6 is going to be the last hurrah for the hit Netflix series, which means they’re going all out. The final season of The Crown will dramatize the romantic start of Kate Middleton’s (Meg Bellamy) fairy tale romance with young Prince William (Ed McVey) at the University of St. Andrews. Netflix has already given fans their first look at the young British actors embodying the equally young royals, but what else do we know about Meg Bellamy and Ed McVey? And who is playing Prince Harry in the final season of Netflix’s The Crown?

Created by Peter Morgan, The Crown is a lavish drama focused on the personal lives of Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton), husband Prince Phillip (Jonathan Pryce), and the current King Charles III (Dominic West) and his first wife Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki). Each season tackles about a decade and change of life for the royals in the 20th century — until The Crown Season 6. We already know that the new season will open in the mid-’90s and will continue on at least through Charles’s wedding to Queen Camilla (Olivia Williams) in 2005. As The Crown enters a new millennium, new royal stars will emerge for the family: Prince William, Prince Harry, and William’s on-and-off girlfriend/future wife Kate Middleton.

So how will The Crown tackle the youngest adult generation of royals? Will we watch Prince William get rowdy at uni? Kate Middleton resigned to being nicknamed “Waity Katie” by the tabloids? Will Prince Harry be unceremoniously written out of the script? Here’s everything you need to know about Meg Bellamy and Ed McVey, the actors playing Kate Middleton and Prince William on The Crown Season 6…

College-aged Kate Middleton will be played by 20-year-old British actress Meg Bellamy. According to The Daily Mail, Bellamy was head girl at St. Crispin’s School, where she studied drama. During her time there, she played the villainous Miss Trunchbull in a school production of Matilda. Bellamy’s teacher told the tabloid that Bellamy — who reportedly is known as Meg Smith back home in Berkshire — took it upon herself to submit a self-tape for the role in The Crown. Meaning she won the role by a long shot.

You can follow Bellamy on Instagram @megkbellamy. (As you can see from the post above, she has been posting official Crown pics and at least one behind-the-scenes shot of her and her Prince William, Ed McVey.)

When we meet Prince William in his late teens and early 20s on The Crown Season 6, the royal will be played by 22-year-old British actor Ed McVey. According to his official acting CV, McVey is six feet tall and studied at the Drama Centre in London. Since then, he’s worked as an understudy at the prestigious Old Vic Theatre, but The Crown marks his major debut.

Ed McVey isn’t the only actor playing Prince William in The Crown Season 6. Rufus Kampa is playing the prince in his earlier teen years, around the aftermath of his mother Diana’s death.

You can follow McVey on Instagram @ed_mcvey_ (where he, too, is posting candid pics with Crown co-stars).

Good news, Prince Harry fans! The Crown Season 6 will also introduce the teenaged version of the Duke of Sussex. Netflix has confirmed that Luther Ford will play Prince Harry in The Crown Season 6.

According to Vulture, the 23-year-old Luther Ford was studying filmmaking at university when a friend suggested he audition for the role of Prince Harry. Fflyn Edwards is playing the younger teen version of Prince Harry.

And before you ask, no, Meghan Markle does not show up in The Crown. The series ends before her romance with Harry begins. Of course, there is another Netflix show you can watch for that drama and it’s the docuseries Harry & Meghan.

The Crown Season 6 will premiere on Netflix later in 2023.
