The worst team could have the best sale. If the White Sox trade multitalented center fielder Luis Robert — and there are mixed messages about whether he’ll be dealt — they should win the day, anyway.
With three more years to go and $63 million remaining, assuming two $20M team options are exercised, Robert should bring a haul nice if he starts playing like he can (he just got back from a hip flexor injury).
Garrett Crochet and Erick Fedde, two starters who also come with control beyond 2024, also will be coveted. Crochet leads the AL in strikeouts. But at 75 ²/₃ innings and starting for the first time, there’s a major innings question.
Late Sox signee Tommy Pham, expected back Friday, also should make a nice pickup for someone, especially considering how many teams are getting little production from their outfields.
The Angels also should do well with Tyler Anderson, Taylor Ward and Carlos Estevez to market.
Kevin Pillar is having the season of his life for the Angels, too, and he will be of interest.
The Phillies not only have extraordinary talent but one scout noted how hard they work and how organized they look. That’s manager Rob Thomson (and Bryce Harper).
“They play hard all the time,” the scout says. “They don’t take anything off.”
Harper might be the best free-agent signing ever. No evidence the Phillies will extend him with seven-plus years to go. But don’t rule it out in subsequent years.

While the Mets ($331M) have the highest payroll, the Dodgers ($312M) — seeking upgrades in multiple spots — may pass the team from Queens. They just picked up Cavan Biggio but are ready to become involved on several fronts.
I guess the Dodgers’ $1.4B winter buying spree was a clue they mean business.
