The Ultimatum: Queer Love wrapped up its dynamite first season with a one-two punch of a finale and a reunion released simultaneously on Netflix. After spending the last few weeks wondering if any of the couples would make it through their trial marriages together, we finally know if anyone got engaged — and, thanks to the reunion, we know if any of the couples have actually made good on their proposals. Mercifully the reunion was pre-taped and edited, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief at not having to stare at an error screen for 90 minutes before finally getting served tea.
So, where are the Ultimatum couples now? Which Ultimatum: Queer Love couples end up together? Did the ultimatums that were issued prior to filming result in a happily ever after? The final two episodes of The Ultimatum: Queer Love answer all of these questions! Below we have a SPOILER-filled rundown of where each couple stands at the end of the season finale, and then at the end of the reunion — because a lot can change with a couple once the cameras stop rolling.
Do Yoly and Mal get engaged? Yes. Mal proposes to Yoly, and Yoly says yes. Mal knows that Yoly still has feelings for Xander, but they’re willing to wait it out because they know Yoly loves them.
Are Yoly and Mal still together? As revealed in the reunion… no, they are not. They are “happily broken up,” Mal says. They split up two weeks after filming (or later than that, according to Mal) when Mal bailed on a couples vacation they were on and flew back home. Mal says that what they saw on the show was a lot different from what Yoly said happened. For example, Mal did not know that Yoly and Xander’s talk during the party at the end of the season wasn’t a break-up talk. It was actually an “I still have feelings for you” talk. Things aren’t great between Mal and Yoly, as Mal says that Yoly feels “like a dangerous stranger to me.” Yikes.
Do Tiff and Mildred get engaged? Yes. After acknowledging that they’ve fucked up a lot over the past two years, Tiff proposes and Mildred says “yes.” This proves to Mildred that Tiff can love her unconditionally, which is something that Mildred was always worried about.
Are Tiff and Mildred still together? No. Very much no. The most no of any couple. After they got engaged, Tiff and Mildred moved in together and as Mildred says in the reunion, “the cloud came back.” Apparently, Tiff was making no further plans to merge their lives as a couple, like opening a joint bank account or bonding with Mildred’s child. Mildred accused Tiff of saying that they should split their rent three ways since Mildred has a child. Mildred also said that Tiff brought women back to their apartment, to which Tiff counters that Mildred had left and they were broken up by that point.
More seriously, Mildred admits to having been arrested after throwing a picture frame and pet gate at Tiff. Mildred said that it was the cops who took off her engagement ring, and she never put it back on. Lastly, Mildred claims that Tiff had sex board games mailed to their apartment and that she can send Tiff pictures of them when she gets back home. Tiff is literally like, “I have a great imagination, I don’t need a board game.” Tiff denies that this is real and ultimately throws their hands up and leaves the reunion, accusing Mildred of gaslighting. After venting to Sam and the producers, they get in a van and exit the situation. Back inside, Yoly asks if Mildred needs a glass of water.
Do Sam and Aussie get engaged? Yes, after a peculiar misdirect from Aussie. Aussie tells Sam an anecdote about penguins who search for a perfect rock to give to their perfect mate, heavily implying that Aussie’s about to give Sam a perfect rock of her own (a diamond ring, obviously). Then Aussie pulls out… a “powerful labradorite protection gemstone.” Aussie gives Sam an actual rock. Sam is incredibly confused and you can tell she’s trying to not start a fight right then and there. I mean, she was just given a literal rock instead of a diamond ring. It’s then that Aussie pulls out an actual engagement ring and gets down on one knee. Proposal accepted, engagement engaged.
Are Sam and Aussie still together? Yes. They’ve been waiting since filming wrapped in late 2021 to tell people because they needed people, like Aussie’s family, to know they were on a reality dating show first. Also remember, Aussie’s family still doesn’t know that Aussie is queer. Aussie said that eventually they’ll have two weddings, one in Australia and one in America so that everyone can attend. Mal is very excited about this.
Do Xander and Vanessa get engaged? No. Even as the two of them say that they still love each other and can’t imagine life without the other one, Xander knows that they both need to be 110% committed to each other in order to get engaged — and Xander still has a percentage left with Yoly. Plus Xander and Vanessa learned a lot about themselves. Xander realized that just the fact that they could fall in love with someone else is a big deal, and Vanessa realized that she does want marriage. Having kinda flip-flopped their positions pre-ultimatum, Vanessa and Xander break up and part ways.
Did Xander and Vanessa get back together? It seems like they tried to reconcile when they got back to Hawaii immediately after filming, but Vanessa found out that Xander was talking to Yoly about her visiting Hawaii at some point. After a reconciliation didn’t pan out, the two stopped speaking to each other and, as of the reunion, it had been a year or so since they last spoke. They know they shouldn’t be together and they have no chance of reuniting. Still, they care about each other and don’t regret their experience together.
Do Yoly and Xander get engaged? No. Yoly eventually tells Xander that she said “yes” to Mal’s proposal, and says that that doesn’t negate their experience together, nor does it lessen Yoly’s feelings for Xander. But Yoly needs to follow her head about Mal because she has loyalty to her. Xander understands and tells Yoly to see it through. Then the two walk away together, do a lot of crying, and then go their own ways. But, like in a damn movie, Yoly calls after Xander and runs back up to them. They don’t kiss and get engaged, though, which would have been very cinematic. Their time together is done.
Do Yoly and Xander get together? Yoly was briefly planning a trip to Hawaii with Xander after filming, but that never materialized. The two of them ended up running into each other at Coachella, where they watched Megan Thee Stallion together. And… that’s it. Xander says that they want to figure themselves out and what they want from a relationship before jumping back into one.
Do Lexi and Rae get engaged? Yes. These two actually get double engaged; both of them propose to the other one, and both of them say “yes.”
Are Lexi and Rae still together? During the reunion, Lexi and Rae reveal that they are still together and are making plans to live on both coasts so they can be close to both of their families. They both called 2022 the best year of their lives, and they are ready to get married. A date has been chosen and Lexi’s mom is making the arrangements. Hell yeah!
Are you sure Lexi and Rae are still together? Actually, at the end of the reunion, some text appears on screen that says that Lexi and Rae called off the wedding and split after the reunion was taped earlier this year. Boo!
That means that while 4 of the 5 couples left The Ultimatum engaged, only 1 remains engaged today. Fingers crossed Aussie and Sam make it to their wedding day.
