Looking for a new adorable romantic comedy? Netflix has you covered with The Perfect Find, a new rom-com starring Gabrielle Union, which just began streaming today.
Directed by Numa Perrier (known for her buzzy debut feature, Jezebel), with a screenplay adapted by Leigh Davenport, The Perfect Find is based on the 2016 self-published novel of the same name by Tia Williams. Union stars as a 40-year-old newly single woman named Jenna, who is determined to throw herself into a brand new career—fashion magazine editing—in order to get over her public break-up with her famous boyfriend. Then Jenna hooks up with a cute guy at a party (played by Keith Powers)… only to discover’s the son of her new boss.
Like many classic romantic comedies, The Perfect Find takes place in New York City. That’s where Harry met Sally, after all! And in fact, Perrier, a big fan of the genre, included a deliberate reference to the famous Nora Ephron film in The Perfect Find. (Can you spot it? Your hint is: Christmas.)
But savvy movie lovers know that any city can pass for New York these days. So where was The Perfect Find filmed? Read on to learn about The Perfect Find filming locations.
There is no Hollywood trickery at play here: The Perfect Find was filmed on location in New York City and the surrounding area, in the summer of 2021. Specifically, the production was filmed in the neighborhood of Harlem, in Manhattan, as well as on the Brooklyn Bridge, for that romantic sequence in which Jenna and Eric spend a magical night together.
In a director’s statement for The Perfect Find production notes, director Numa Perrier said, “This is also a New York story. Falling in love in NYC just hits different. The romance of the Brooklyn Bridge and the electricity of being able to bump into anyone at any moment gives it that special charm that we all long for.”
That said, the production was also filmed in Newark, New Jersey, and in Jersey City, New Jersey—which is not quite New York City, but is very nearby, and no doubt less expensive for production. Union posted several photos and videos from the New Jersey set on her Instagram, including a video of her husband, former NBA champion Dwyane Wade, surprising her on the last day of filming, with dancers who performed to the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.”
In other words, even though not every scene was filmed in New York City, there was still plenty of romance buzzing on the streets of New Jersey.
You can see the magic play out for yourself by watching The Perfect Find today, which is now streaming on Netflix.
