The first Republican debate of the 2024 election cycle takes place tonight in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Presidential hopefuls like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will be on hand to discuss the issues of the day. One candidate who won’t be attending is former President Donald Trump.

“The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had,” Trump wrote, per Deadline. “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!”

Instead of participating in the debate, Trump will air a pre-taped interview with Tucker Carlson. The sit-down with the former Fox News talking head is expected to begin at 9:00 p.m. ET, which, wouldn’t ya know it, is also the scheduled start time of the GOP debate. According to Trump himself (via a Truth Social post), his pre-taped interview with Tucker Carlson will “be aired” at the same time as the debate (9:00 p.m. ET).

Nope. While we’re sure excerpts from the interview will eventually run on a number of networks, the Trump/Carlson sit-down is scheduled to be posted only on X (more on that below).

The interview will reportedly be on the social media platform X (aka Twitter), most likely on Tucker Carlson’s page. Though Trump is using the phrase “aired,” since this isn’t streaming live, it will most likely be posted as what used to be called a tweet.
