The Hunger Games franchise has cemented its place in film history and continues to do so.

The story has evolved from Katniss’s (Jennifer Lawrence) struggle to survive the games into a larger-scale political revolution.

The franchise’s catalog comprises five movies, and a sixth will be released in 2026. It will be an adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s fifth book, Sunrise on the Reaping, which was recently released.

The adventurous story has even moved beyond Katniss’s battle and introduced a new generation of revolutionaries in the latest film, which is actually a prequel to the original, showing with an almost entirely new cast how the fight began and continued.

If you need a refresher or are just diving into the revolution, we have the guide for watching The Hunger Games films.

The Hunger Games movies are now available on Hulu, and there are two ideal ways to watch them.

The first way is to watch by their release date, starting with The Hunger Games (2012), followed by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 (2014), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 (2015), and finishing with the prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023).

However, Hulu suggests that the second way for fans who have watched the films before is best: starting with The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes since it is a prequel to the original. This allows them to recognize Easter eggs and details that they may not have noticed before.

Starting with The Hunger Games (2012), the film dives into an apocalyptic America where the elites compete, taking two tributes for each of the 12 districts to compete for survival. Katniss volunteers to save her sister from the games and becomes a symbol of hope.

Next, in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), after surviving the games, Katniss and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) are forced to parade around on a victory tour, during which Katniss solidifies herself as the face of the rebellion against the oppressive government.

Following The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 (2014), the book Mockingjay is divided into two parts for the film adaptation. Katniss reluctantly finds herself as the rebellion’s leader in a battle quickly escalating against the Capitol. The Capitol tries to intimidate the uprising, which only motivates Katniss to fight back even more, now with the help of District 13.

In Mockingjay, Part 2 (2015), the battle reaches a breaking point, when it will be decided whether the revolutionaries will achieve the freedom they have been dying for.

Finally, in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023), the origins of the Hunger Games are explained, taking place six decades before the original films.
