This morning’s episode of The View barely kicked off before Whoopi Goldberg acknowledged the elephant in the room: the lack of Sunny Hostin‘s presence at the Hot Topics table.

“First of all, do not get freaked out, Sunny is not here today,” Goldberg started as soon as the initial applause died down. “But she appears later in the show because we were able to tape some things with folks who couldn’t come.”

“And so you’ll see her in the show, but she’s not here at the show,” Goldberg concluded, before moving on to discuss recent developments with the 2024 presidential election.

The host’s explanation of Hostin’s absence made it seem like a planned event, not a sudden development.

Goldberg gave limited information in her address to the audience, only noting that Hostin was fine and the absence seemed planned, as the missing host was included in the pre-recorded portions of the episode.

Hostin was active on her social media this morning, reposting an Instagram story of Kamala Harris speaking at The State of the Black Union in 2006, writing, “smart on crime doesn’t mean tough on crime.”

Since it is unclear exactly why Hostin was not on air today, it is unknown when she will return to the show. Viewers will have to tune in tomorrow to see if she’s back!
