Jenna Bush Hager was replaced by E!’s Justin Sylvester during Monday’s (July 15) broadcast of Today With Hoda & Jenna.
But Sylvester, who is a regular entertainment correspondent on the show, still proved to be a fun and fitting replacement for Bush Hager. After Hoda Kotb took a moment at the top of the show to offer her thoughts and prayers to former President Donald Trump after the assassination attempt this weekend, Sylvester complimented Kotb and Today With Hoda & Jenna, saying, “This is why I love this show, because you always remind us, no matter what side you’re on, you still bring the humanity. And I feel sometimes in these times we forget about that humanity.”
Later on in the broadcast, he thanked Kotb for inviting him to fill in for Bush Hager.
“I love when you call me to do this because I get to spend time in what is the most magical city in the world,” he said, before joking: “When I see a rat running across the street holding a cigarette in his hand with a pizza trailing behind him, I know every New Yorker is grossed out. I’m like, ‘Oh my god! You’re Ratatouille!'”
As charming as Sylvester may be, some Today fans are still wondering where Bush Hager is and when should she be expected back on the show. Here’s what we know so far.
Kotb announced at the top of the show that her co-host is away “on assignment,” which means Bush Hager could be working on another high-profile interview for Today With Hoda & Jenna.
It remains unclear when the host will be expected back on the show, but she should be back on the air soon. Decider reached out to NBC for further information.
The show just isn’t the same without Bush Hager and her hijinks. Just last week, she vowed to set her co-host up with Kevin Costner after they were “flirting” on the show, and she tried to shut down a segment about life hacks because it required Kotb to use a very sharp knife on camera. No one does it better!
Today with Hoda & Jenna airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
