Harold Perrineau stars in From, a creepy tale about a small town that traps everyone who ventures inside. And with its mysterious name, From has intrigued audiences so much it has snagged a 98 percent average score on Rotten Tomatoes.

In this sci-fi series, the residents of a small town in Middle America are trapped there, some since they were children, by unknown forces. The townspeople try to find a way back to the outside world but become plagued by the creatures living in the forest surrounding them.

If this eerie premise feels slightly reminiscent of Lost, that might be because From executive producer Jack Bender previously worked on the hit mystery box series. Perrineau also starred on the show.

From filmed in the Sackville and Beaverbank areas of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The set for the town was built in 2021 in the area of Beaver Bank, containing ten buildings that are used for both interior and exterior shots, according to an interview on CBC Radio’s Information Morning Nova Scotia with Kevin Lewis, the head of the show’s scenic department.

They settled on the area because it was near the woods and it already had some infrastructure in terms of paved roads and driveways, meaning the set department just had to focus on constructing the buildings to make it look like a lived-in town.

“It’s just sort of unbelievable how quickly it all went up and how believable it is when you drive through it — it’s actually a town,” Lewis said.

According to IMDb, Beaver Bank Villa was once home to a small town for people who worked at the nearby military base in the ’50s and ’60s. It contained a school, a church, convenience store and multiple houses, but it was all demolished in 2004.

Select episodes were also filmed at the Oakfield Provincial Park in Nova Scotia.

From Season 1 premiered on Epix in 2022, while Season 2 landed on MGM+ April 25. Season 3 is currently in development.
