Craig Melvin has been noticeably absent from The Today Show since Monday (July 17), but the hosts have not explained why.
Though other Today Show co-hosts and contributors have filled in for the audience favorite, fans are beginning to wonder where Melvin could be and when he is expected back on the morning broadcast.
Melvin was first missing at the beginning of the week when he was replaced by Today co-host Sheinelle Jones and NBC’s chief international correspondent Keir Simmons during certain segments.
Al Roker briefly explained Melvin’s absence when he introduced Simmons at the top of the segment.
“Welcome to the Third Hour of Today. Good to see you. I’m Al, along with Sheinelle,” he said, per MSN.
He then noted, “Dylan [Dreyer] and Craig are off, but we’ve got, all the way from jolly ol’ England, Keir Simmons! Good to see you, my friend.”
Melvin also took Wednesday (July 19) off. Host Tom Llamas filled in for him instead. So, where is the sunny Today host? Here’s what we know.

It looks like Melvin could be taking a short summer break with his family. The Today Show host’s wife, Lindsay Czarniak, recently shared a picture of the family sightseeing in New York City this weekend. But she also tagged Melvin in a photo of their son, Delano, catching a football in the water on Tuesday (July 17).
In the last few weeks, Roker, Savanna Guthrie, and Hoda Kotb have all taken some time off to enjoy the summer with their families.
There’s no telling when we should expect Melvin back, but it’ll likely be in just a few days. Decider has reached out to The Today Show for more information, but did not hear back by time of publication.
Until then, The Today Show has a whole slew of hosts and contributors who will gladly keep his seat warm.
The Today Show airs on weekdays at 7 a.m. ET on NBC.
