Netflix’s Longest Third Date documentary, which began streaming today, might have you swooning over the power of true love, or it might have you swearing off dating apps for the rest of your life.
Directed by Brent Hodge, Longest Third Date is a first-hand account of a couple, Matt Robertson and Khani Le, who met on Hinge, and decided spontaneously to fly to Costa Rica for their third-ever date. The only problem? Their flight out of New York left on March 17, 2020.
Matt and Khani barely knew each other, and because of the COVID-19 lockdown, ended up living together for nearly three months in Costa Rica. And because Matt was an aspiring social media influencer who was constantly making vlogs for his YouTube channel, the entire experience is on film. It’s a wild watch that’s not nearly as romantic as Netflix seems to think it is, but you won’t be able to look away. And you’ll definitely come away wondering where Matt and Khani are today.

Yes. As you’ll learn at the end of the movie, Matt and Khani are still together and have been dating for three years. Though it’s not made clear in the film, after landing back in the states, Matt and Khani kept their adventure alive by taking road trips to visit each other’s families, according to a New York Post report. After one year of dating, they moved in together. They even have an adorable puppy together, named Banks.
