Our Tuesday nights are missing a visit from an old friend: The Rookie.
The season seven finale of the popular Nathan Fillion-led procedural aired back in May on ABC, so what does Season 8 look like for The Rookie? Showrunner Alexi Hawley recently talked to TVLine about the possibility of Wesley (Shawn Ashmore) running for DA.
“We’re sniffing around a bit of where to take that story, and it would certainly make sense for Wesley, who was a defense attorney and believes very strongly in righting the wrongs of an injust justice system,” Hawley told TVLine. “He’s an assistant DA, they have not a ton of power, so becoming the DA would give him an ability to shake things up. So, we’re definitely kicking the tires on that idea.”
When exactly does The Rookie return with new episodes? Here’s everything we know.
Nope. The season finale of The Rookie aired Tuesday, May 13 on ABC.
Tonight’s ABC primetime schedule consists of back-to-back-to-back reruns of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET.
The seventh season of The Rookie consists of 18 total episodes.
Yes! ABC renewed The Rookie for an eighth season back in April 2025. Per Deadline, the upcoming season is expected to consist of 18 episodes.
Unfortunately, The Rookie isn’t on ABC’s upcoming 2025 fall schedule. Just like last season, the network is holding The Rookie and Will Trent for midseason. No official premiere date has been announced, but The Rookie has already started production on Season 8 and is expected to return in January 2026.
You bet! Every episode of The Rookie is streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
If you’re new to Hulu, you can get started with a 30-day free trial on the streamer’s basic (with ads) plan. After the trial period, you’ll pay $9.99/month. If you want to upgrade to Hulu ad-free, it costs $18.99/month.
If you want to stream even more and save a few bucks a month while you’re at it, we recommend subscribing to one of the Disney+ Bundles, all of which include Hulu. These bundles start at $10.99/month for ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu and goes up to $29.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max, all ad-free.
