Cattrall was the only original star of Sex and the City who didn’t sign up for Max‘s polarizing sequel series, but she finally agreed to film a brief cameo for the And Just Like That… Season 2 finale. So now that And Just Like That… Season 2 Episode 10 is streaming on Max, can you see the return of Samantha Jones? Not quite…

And Just Like That… Season 2 has a unique eleven episode count. That means that this week’s episode — And Just Like That… Season 2 Episode 10 “The Last Supper Part One: Appetizer” is actually the penultimate episode of the season. Cattrall won’t show up on And Just Like That… until next week, when the season finale drops on Max.

Kim Cattrall’s cameo will occur in the And Just Like That… Season 2 finale. And Just Like That… Season 2 Episode 11 will premiere on Thursday, August 24 on Max.

The cameo is reportedly a single phone call that Samantha has with Carrie. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sarah Jessica Parker shared that “[i]t’s just a really sentimental, funny, sweet moment that is timed perfectly for a specific event that’s happening in Carrie’s life.” (Sounds like it will have something to do either with Carrie’s big move to Gramercy Park or her reunion with Aidan…)

Kim Cattrall has claimed that she was never approached to return to the character of Samantha Jones for And Just Like That… “I was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media,” Cattrall told Variety in 2022.

The scuttle is that Cattrall refused to join a third Sex and the City film because she disagreed with a storyline in the script in which a teenaged Brady Hobbes (now played on And Just Like That… by Niall Cunningham) would text lewd photos to Samantha. That lead to a rumored falling out between her and the rest of the cast and creative team.

Kim Cattrall stopped by The View earlier this summer to promote her Netflix show Glamorous and revealed that “the head of HBO” personally called her to work out a deal for her return to the series. That means that Casey Bloys likely made a sweetheart deal to hammer out the conditions of this cameo.

Cattrall revealed that she had one major request that wasn’t money-related, but fashion-focused. “One of those things was to get [original Sex and the City costume designer] Pat Field back because I just thought that if I’m going to come back I gotta come back with that Samantha style, I gotta push it, and we did.”/

According to Variety, Cattrall shot her cameo on March 22. Neither And Just Like That… star Sarah Jessica Parker or showrunner Michael Patrick King were on the set. Variety confirmed that Patricia Field did indeed design Cattrall’s wardrobe. The current costume designer for And Just Like That... is Sex and the City alum and Field’s mentée, Molly Rogers.
