As the great Christopher Briney once said, three seasons and a movie doesn’t sound quite as good as “six seasons and a movie,” but hey! We’re still getting a movie! And that’s all that counts!

Hours after The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s third and final season finale aired on Prime Video, the streamer announced that the franchise is expanding with TSITP: The Movie, an upcoming feature film installation directed by Jenny Han, and written by Han and Sarah Kucserka.

“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said in a statement shared via Prime Video press release. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

While details on TSITP: The Movie are still majorly under wraps, we do have the first update on when the film is coming out, courtesy of Han herself on The Today Show. Han, Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno called in from Paris to chat with hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin about all things Cousins Beach. So when will TSITP movie premiere? How far along are Han and Kucserka in the writing and filming process? And what can we expect from TSITP‘s final installment?

Here’s everything we know about TSITP: Movie.

While an official TSITP: The Movie premiere date has yet to be announced, we do know when not to expect it, and Han gave fans a clearer idea of the timeline. When asked if TSITP movie is coming out in 2026 or 2027, the creator said, “It’s still a little too soon to say… We don’t know when it’s coming out, but not next year.”

Currently, it sounds like the earliest TSITP fans will return to Cousins Beach for the feature film is 2027, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as more premiere date information unfolds.

One of the major reasons TSITP: The Movie will take so long to premiere is because Han and crew haven’t started filming yet. “We still have to make it,” TSITP creator confirmed when revealing the movie isn’t expected to come out in 2026.

For those wondering how far along the project is, Han also gave an update on TSITP movie’s writing process, sharing, “Sarah Kucserka, my co-showrunner, and I have finished a draft. So we’re shuffling along.”

As noted, details about specific storylines in TSITP movie are still under wraps, with Han once again sharing “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey.” However, fans who’ve read TSITP books, particularly Book 3, We’ll Always Have Summer, know the Season 3 finale omitted several crucial scenes, storylines, and an epilogue. So if you want some idea of what to expect from the movie and what that major milestone in Belly’s life is, be sure to read our TSITP Book 3 ending explained article for spoilers.

Aside from Conrad and Belly’s endgame TSITP Season 3 finale also set up several new storylines and relationships that can be explored in the movie, including “Christmas in Paris,” Steven/Taylor/Denise’s move to San Francisco, Jeremiah and Denise’s romance, Jere’s culinary career, Laurel and John’s connection, and more. While we wait for more details on TSITP: The Movie, be sure to catch up on Decider’s in-depth Season 3 coverage.
