Lifetime’s event series V.C. Andrews’ Dawn concludes with “Midnight Whispers,” the shocking final chapter of the twisted tale of the Longchamp and Cutler families. By twisted I mean intertwined, tightly, intimately, as if the families are cursed to only ever fall in love with someone who already regularly attends family functions.
Even as the narrative passes from Dawn to her daughter Christie, the family traditions of secrets and abuse continue — unless Christie and her partner Gavin (who is also her step-father’s half-brother) can get the happily ever after that’s eluded generations of Longchamps. In order to do so, they’ll have to confront the darkest secrets of not only Dawn’s past but also great-grandma Lilian’s.

Of course it is! It’s the fourth book in V.C. Andrews’ series of Cutler family novels — but it’s actually not the last. While the Lifetime series ends after Part 4, the books go for one more installment — Darkest Hour. That novel is actually a prequel to the rest of the story, as it takes the narrative back in time to the Great Depression and tells the origin story of Dawn’s abusive grandmother Lillian.
Overall, the Cutler series consists of five novels: Dawn (1990), Secrets of the Morning (1991), Twilight’s Child (1992), Midnight Whispers (1992), and Darkest Hour (1993).
