The film’s official description on the Lifetime website says that it was inspired by actual events. However, “inspired by actual events” does not mean that a student named Emma was held hostage and forced to drive a criminal named Rick around. It’s possible that this movie pulls elements from any number of stories of a carjacking wherein the carjacker steals the car and the driver. This was the frequent mode of transportation for serial killer Douglas Gretzler and his accomplice Willie Steelman. This is even the plot of 12 Desperate Hours, a movie that premiered on Lifetime just two months ago. That movie was actually based on one specific true story, and it’s possible that that story inspired parts of this movie too.
