Like the previous films in the series (Wrath, Greed, Envy, and Lust), Pride is not based on a true story. It is, however, based on the novel written by Victoria Christopher Murray. If you’ve read the novel, you’ll probably be quite surprised by this adaptation. The lead of the film is Bertie, a reality TV star and celebrity baker; the lead of the novel is Journee, a top real estate agent. In the movie, Bertie turns to her estranged daughter for help; in the novel, Journee reaches out to an ex. The one thing that really unites both of these stories is the fact that both Bertie and Journee’s carefully constructed lives start to fall apart when someone starts dredging up their past. But judging by all of the differences, it seems like you should get something entirely different out of the movie and novel.
