After fans waited months to learn when their 118 reunion would be, ABC finally announced 9-1-1‘s highly-anticipated Season 9 return date. Everyone marked their calendars and started planning accordingly, only for ABC to unexpectedly shift its fall schedule. But now, 9-1-1‘s Season 9 premiere date is even sooner. Hooray!
Following Season 8’s finale, which premiered all the way back on May 15, Athena (Angela Bassett), Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Hen (Aisha Hinds), Buck (Oliver Stark), Eddie (Ryan Guzman), Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody), and the rest of 9-1-1‘s core characters will undoubtedly still be processing the devastating loss of Bobby (Peter Krause) in Season 9.

If you turn on ABC tonight, Thursday, July 31, 2025, hoping to watch a new episode of 9-1-1, you’re unfortunately out of luck. In place of 9-1-1 Season 8 reruns, ABC will be airing a new episode of Celebrity Family Feud, starring Diplo, Laverne Cox, and the casts of General Hospital vs The Young and the Restless.
You bet! On April 3, 2025, Deadline reported that ABC gave 9-1-1 an early Season 9 renewal. On April 29, 2025, following an especially emotional Season 8 episode, ABC reported that after seven days of viewing, 9-1-1 scored 8.45 million total viewers, reaching a five-month multi-platform high in the Adults 18-49 demographic. And on Season 8 finale day, Deadline reported that Bobby’s funeral episode, “The Last Alarm,” drew “9.18 million total viewers and a 1.75 rating among Adults 18-49 in Live+7 multi-platform viewing,” which marked a six-month record high. Overall, the series ranked fourth on ABC for the 2024/2025 broadcast season, which made it ripe for renewing!
So when will 9-1-1 return with new episodes? ABC initially confirmed the series would return on Thursday, October 16, but the network shifted its fall 2025 schedule and now 9-1-1 Season 9 is set to premiere Thursday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET, followed by episodes of Ryan Murphy’s new spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville.

In a recent interview with Tommy DiDario on his I’ve Never Said This Before podcast, Jennifer Love Hewitt teased the season ahead, saying, “Lots of emergencies. Obviously this will be our first full season without Peter on the show, which is heartbreaking, because we all love him so much. So that’s gonna be different. I think everybody’s gonna change and evolve because he’s not on the show. And then lots of crazy stuff. I’m super interested to see what kind of breakdown Maddie’s going to have this season. Cause I always have some sort of breakdown. Hopefully I won’t get kidnapped this season. Although it’s fun when I do…”
