If more NFL players thought like Phillip Lindsay did when he crossed the goal line, an epidemic of brain farts could be cured.

Each of the 20 touchdown footballs from Lindsay’s career either were handed to an equipment manager for safe-keeping until he could bring it home to his trophy case, to a family member in the crowd (NFL-issued fine be damned) as a thank you or to an offensive lineman for a celebratory spike.

In all three cases, Lindsay had to carry the ball into the end zone.

In the past two weeks, Colts receiver Adonai Mitchell and Cardinals running back Emari Demercado became the third and fourth players over the past two seasons — joining then-Jets receiver Malachi Corley and Bengals safety Jordan Battle — to drop the ball short of the end zone in a premature touchdown celebration.
