You would not have known the Jets just won a football game looking at the face of left tackle Duane Brown as he stood at his locker speaking to reporters.
Brown looked somber as he discussed Aaron Rodgers’ injury and his role in the play that led to it.
“It sucks,” Brown said.
Brown tried to cut Bills defensive end Leonard Floyd on the fourth play of the game but as he dove, Floyd avoided the block and got to Rodgers.
Floyd’s tackle led to Rodgers’ injury, which the Jets fear is a torn left Achilles tendon.
If Tuesday’s MRI exam confirms the Achilles is torn, Rodgers season is over.
“It sucks, man,” Brown said. “I’ve got all the respect and love for Aaron. I don’t know the extent of his injury. I just hate to not see him out there.”
Jets coach Robert Saleh said Brown was not to blame for the play. It sounded like it was meant to be a quick pass, but the play got extended.
“Duane can’t look at that and say that was his fault,” Saleh said. “You fight until the end of the down but when it extends the way it does, it’s just a very, very unfortunate play.”
Brown said even if the timing was off, he needed to execute the block.
“I went to cut the defensive end. He played it well and he got home and Aaron got injured,” Brown said.
