NextImg:What we learned in Jets’ Week 3 loss: They can’t make anything look easy

TAMPA, Fla. — The Jets dropped a heartbreaker to the Buccaneers on Sunday, losing 29-27 on a field goal as time expired. Here are some thoughts and observations from the game:

1. Why can other teams make things look easy and the Jets make everything look so hard? That was my thought for most of the game on Sunday. Look, they made a miraculous comeback, capped off by Will McDonald’s touchdown off a blocked field goal. The Jets deserve credit for showing that kind of fight, and I wrote about that on Sunday.

However, this is the issue with the Jets. The Buccaneers seemingly had receivers running wide open all day for easy catches. When the Jets actually had one, Tyler Johnson dropped the ball. The Jets offense had some good drives on Sunday, but they are all 10, 11, 12 play drives that feel like hard work. It feels like nothing comes easy for the Jets. Why can’t they scheme up open receivers? On defense, it felt like Baker Mayfield dictated to them most of the day and not the other way around even though they had three backup offensive linemen playing.

Somehow, the Buccaneers are on their third offensive coordinator in three years and all of them have done well. Josh Grizzard is off to a good start after replacing Liam Coen, who replaced Dave Canales. Those last two are both now head coaches.
