Get ready to go under the sea and kiss the girl and all that jazz, because the new Little Mermaid movie is coming to Disney+ tomorrow.
This 2023 remake of the beloved animated 1989 movie is the latest entry in Disney’s catalog of live-action remakes. Singer Halle Bailey stars as Ariel, aka the little mermaid who dreams of becoming a human. Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric, the dashing human love interest, and Melissa McCarthy plays Ursula, the villainous sea witch with the best song. Other cast members include Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Art Malik, and Javier Bardem.
Directed by Rob Marshall, with a screenplay by David Magee, The Little Mermaid failed to make the splash at the box office that Disney hoped it would. But perhaps it will fare better on streaming.
